About this work

The work never looks the same.

Daylight plays with the wood. Morning, afternoon, evening: something shifts every time. The grain lights up, or withdraws. A plane you barely noticed yesterday is fully present today. Not as an effect, but as a quality of the wood.

Wood has frequency. You feel it the moment you stand beside it. The energy held in the wood spreads through the room, and into the people who live there.

No technique creates this. It is the character of the wood itself, heightened by the design and the play of lines.

The River is released in an edition of twenty-five. Each piece is numbered, signed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The Japanese call it shinrin-yoku: the effect of the forest on the skin, the lungs, the mind. The Celts spoke of the breath of life within every trunk. Modern acoustics can measure it: layered wooden structures soften echo and give a room a gentler sound.

Yet everything those words describe is something you already know the moment you stand before The River. The fibres of the wood carry the rhythm of decades of growth, and that rhythm carries into every room where this work hangs. Not as decoration. As presence.
